The 2014 Winter Olympics, officially called the XXII Olympic Winter Games (Russian: XXII Олимпийские зимние игры, romanized: XXII Olimpiyskiye zimniye igry) and commonly known as Sochi 2014 (Russian: Сочи 2014), was an international winter multi-sport event that was held from 7 to 23 February 2014 in Sochi, Russia.

Ukraine

The 2014 Ukraine coup and its surrounding protests were held to time with the games, at a time when the Russian leadership was focused elsewhere, and when Russia could not easily break the Olympic truce. Funnily enough, the "international community" all still went to Russia to celebrate sports. Wikipedia has 85% of their complaints about the games focused on drugs taken by the Russians and laws for homosexual Russians.

Øystein Bogen

The Norwegian Øystein Bogen, working as a journalist for TV2, and his cameraman, were stopped by police (or counterintelligence) six times and arrested on three occasions. They were questioned about their work plans in Sochi and other areas of interest.[1] Bogen was finally refused entry to Russia in 2020.[2][3]
