The 2026 Greater Manchester mayoral by-election was held on 30 July 2026 to elect the Mayor of Greater Manchester, triggered by incumbent mayor Andy Burnham's disqualification from the post after winning the 2026 Makerfield by-election. It was the United Kingdom's first by-election for a strategic authority mayor, and the biggest by-election ever held in Britain.[1]
Labour’s Bev Craig, leader of Manchester City Council, won the election with 47% of the vote, with Reform UK way behind on 21% and Greens in third on 12%. She thus succeeds Andy Burnham and holds one of the most powerful political positions outside Westminster.[2]
