Ball State University is a public university in Muncie, Indiana.

History

On July 25, 1917, the Ball brothers, founders of the Ball Corporation, purchased the failed Indiana Normal Institute for $35,100 and gave the school and surrounding land to the state of Indiana. The Indiana General Assembly accepted the site in the spring of 1918, after which 235 students initially enrolled at the Indiana State Normal School - Eastern Division. Ball State University has been named in honor of the financial support of the five Ball brothers since 1965.[1]

As of Fall 2020, total enrollment was 21,597 students,[6] including 15,205 undergraduates and 5,817 postgraduates.[2]
