Christophe de Margerie was a French businessman. He died in a bizarre air crash in Moscow and was succeeded as Total CEO by fellow Bilderberger Patrick Pouyanné.
Career
Christophe de Margerie joined the Total Group after graduating from the Ecole Superieure de Commerce in Paris in 1974. In 2007 he was made chief executive of the company.
Death
Christophe de Margerie was in a corporate jet which collided with a snow plough and burst into flames. All four people on board were killed. Svetlana Krivsun, 23, was charged with causing death of Christophe de Margerie. She is suspected of having given the order for the private jet to take off. It crashed after its front wheel clipped a snowplough on the runway. Russian investigators claimed that the driver of the snow plough, Vladimir Martynenko was drunk, but he denied this.[1][2] Interfax reported on January 14, 2016 that the charges against Svetlana Krivsun were dropped [3] "due to the absence of incriminating evidence" according to her lawyer.
The incident happen in the same year when the US government put intense pressure on European companies and governments to cancel business with Russia, including record 'fines' to the French bank BNP Paribas.
