Exposed as the Chief of the CIA Rome Station. Escaped Italian seven years conviction for kidnapping.

Jeffrey W. Castelli is a retired spook who was exposed as the Chief of the CIA Rome Station.

Activities

Castelli worked, presumably as a CIA case officer, abroad for more than 17 years in South Asia, the Middle East and Europe.[1]

Castelli was CIA station chief in Rome at the time of the kidnapping of Egyptian cleric Hassan Mustafa Osama Nasr on February 17, 2003, and was among 26 U.S. nationals (and one of the few with confirmed identities) subsequently indicted by Italian authorities[2] for their involvement in what in the Italian press is referred to as the Imam Rapito affair (or "kidnapped cleric") affair.

On February 4, 2013, Castelli was convicted to seven years in prison, by a Milan court, along with three other CIA officials. None of the convicted US officials were present at the trial and none of them have been extradited to Italy later.[3][4][5][6][7]

He officially retired in 2009, and started working for military-industrial complex companies such as cybersecurity software firm Endgame and Accenture Federal Services,[8], pushing for "offensive cyber actions" against opponents, such as "destroying the computer networks they use for cybercrime to unleashing cyber weapons on an adversary's critical infrastructure."[1]
