British surgeon accuses the IDF of using Palestinian civilians as 'target practice' | |
Nicholas Maynard is a British surgeon who works as a consultant gastrointestinal surgeon at Oxford University Hospital. He attended Exeter College (Oxford) and trained at Guy's Hospital Medical School (part of King's College London). He spent two years as a Senior Registrar in Melbourne, Australia before returning to Guy's in London.
Work in Gaza
Professor Maynard is also known for his many trips to Gaza between 2010 and 2025. After returning from Gaza in January 2024, he told media of a dire humanitarian situation and the collapse of the healthcare system. Maynard has called for a ceasefire to end the violence.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
Targeting and 'target practice'
Also, in 2024, Maynard said that Israel was engaged in the "deliberate targeting of doctors, of nurses, and of hospitals".[9]
In a 2025 interview with Sky News, Maynard said that the IDF was shooting Palestinian civilians at GHF aid points "almost like a game of target practice".[10]
The Gaza Tribunal
Nick Maynard was the first witness to give testimony to The Gaza Tribunal on Thursday 4 September 2025.[11]
