Founded in 1842 "forever to be conducted on the most liberal principles."

Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) is a private liberal arts university in the town of Delaware, Ohio. It was founded in 1842 by Methodist leaders and Central Ohio residents as a nonsectarian institution. Ohio Wesleyan has always admitted students irrespective of religion or race and maintained that the university "is forever to be conducted on the most liberal principles."[1][2]

Founded by Methodists in 1844, this university is named after John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, as are many institutions of higher education in the United States.

With a staff of 150 teachers for 1,950 students, this university is one of eight that are part of the famous Ohio Five League, of which Oberlin College is also a member.
