An assassinated Dutch politician

Pim Fortuyn was a Dutch politician who was assassinated on May 6, 2002 by animal activist Volkert van der Graaf, just one week before the prime ministerial elections that Fortuyn stood a good chance of winning.

Assassination

Joël van der Reijden of ISGP did an independent investigation into Fortuyn's death and of the dominant alternative theories that have been pushed.[1]

After his death, writer Tomas Ross and journalist Theo van Gogh (who both belonged to the same Republican Society as Pim Fortuyn) suggested that a second shooter was present.[2][3]

In 2026, Hans Izaak Kriek published the book Pim Fortuyn-murder by order?, telling how "For years I was bound by a non-disclosure agreement, but the questions about the murder of Pim Fortuyn have still not been answered after 23 years. Not because they were unimportant, but because they were too politically sensitive." Kriek, who for for 30 days coached the top of the Ministry of the Interior and the AIVD in 2002 in preparation for the investigative committee after the assassination, said that "Fortuyn repeatedly indicated that he felt threatened. He was not structurally protected"..."the top knew that the failure of the security was the fatal factor."[4]
