Background

In 1982 Stinnett read At Dawn We Slept, The Untold Story Of Pearl Harbor by fellow WW2 veteran and historian Professor Gordon Prange. Stinnett went to Pearl Harbor to investigate and write a news story.

Publications

After 17 years of research he wrote Day of Deceit, which claims that Washington was aware of the Japanese attack, but that this information was withheld from Admiral Kimmel, the Hawaii commander, in order to inflame US sentiment against the Japanese and so facilitate the US mobilisation for entry into World War II.[1]
