The Pentagon is the headquarters building of the United States Department of Defense.
On Friday 5 September 2025, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the Department of Defense to be known as the Department of War. The Pentagon's website changed to https://www.war.gov/ late on Friday, along with the headline 'US/Department/War'.[1]

The Pentagon, headquarters of the US Department of Defence was attacked, allegedly by a hijacked jetliner on 9/11. The attackers targeted the recently strengthened wing where accountants from the ONI were investigating corruption.
"Waste"
Deputy Defense Secretary Robert O. Work ordered a study into "defense spending". When it revealed $125 billion in wasteful spending, it was suppressed amid fear that it might lead US Congress to reduce the Pentagon's budget.[2]
Secrecy
In March 2019, Donald Trump removed a requirement for the Pentagon (and US intelligence agencies) to report on civilian casualties that occurred during their operations.[3]
