American politician and "Kakistocracy Controlled-Opposition Agent" | |
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez[1] also known by her initials, AOC, is an American politician. Thomas Müller termed her a "Kakistocracy Controlled-Opposition Agent".[2]
Background
Ocasio-Cortez majored in International Relations (IR) and Economics at Boston University's Pardee School, graduating cum laude in 2011. The Pardee School's IR program is filled with "former" CIA spooks.[3]
Career
Soon after finishing university, she was the recipient of a sinecure job supplied by Michael Bloomberg.[4] As part of Bloomberg's Hunts Point gentrification project, she founded a publishing firm that never published anything and was employed as "Lead Educational Strategist" for a consulting firm that seems never to have done any business.[5]
In 2017, a progressive group that formed in response to Donald Trump's election called the Justice Democrats held "auditions" for potential congressional candidates to run on their platform. "Back in 2016, we put out a call for nominations," said the group's executive director, Alexandra Rojas. "We got over 10,000 nominations. Out of those 10,000 nominations, we found Alexandria."[6][7]
Ocasio-Cortez drew national recognition when she won the Democratic Party's primary election for New York's 14th congressional district on 26 June 2018, defeating the ten-term incumbent Congressman, Democratic Caucus Chair Joe Crowley, in what was widely seen as the biggest upset victory in the 2018 midterm election primaries.[8][9][10][11][12] She beat Republican opponent Anthony Pappas in the 6 November 2018 General Election, and at age 29, became the youngest woman ever to serve in the United States Congress.[13] Ocasio-Cortez has been noted for her substantial social media presence relative to her fellow members of Congress.
Syria
In 2023, Ocasio-Cortez was among 56 Democrats to vote in favor of H.Con.Res. 21, which directed President Joe Biden to remove U.S. troops from Syria within 180 days.[14]
ICE
Ocasio-Cortez has expressed support for banning the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement police agency called ICE calling it "a product of the Bush-era Patriot Act suite of legislation" and "an enforcement agency that takes on more of a paramilitary tone every single day".[15]
