American Psycho is a 2000 black comedy horror film, based on the 1991 novel by Bret Easton Ellis,[1] it stars Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman, a New York City investment banker who leads a double life as a serial killer. The film blends psychological horror and black comedy to satirize 1980s yuppie culture and consumerism, exemplified by Bateman.
The Minnesota connection
The film appears to borrow elements of pimp behavior and circumstances described in the non fiction book: The Minnesota Connection by Al Palmquist and John Stone (Bible Voice Books, 1978). In the book:
- pimps make their victims pliable by beating them with wire coat hangers
- women who are identified to give to much trouble are sent to New York, with a number of them not to return
