Austria is a German-speaking nation state in central Europe.
History
Austria was annexed by Germany prior to WWII.
During the Cold War, leading Austrian editors were recruited by the CIA to spread stories.[1].
The newspaper Die Presse was founded by Ernst Molden and his son Fritz Molden, who had organized a resistance group against the Nazis with the help of the American Office of Strategic Services, a forerunner of the CIA, in the last months of the war. Fritz Molden's closeness to the secret service was also family-related. He was married in those years to the daughter of CIA chief Allen Dulles.[2]
Also Otto Schulmeister, editor-im-chief of die Presse had a long-standing relationship with the CIA. Other journalists were also on friendly terms with members of the US Embassy in Vienna and the CIA men working undercover there. During these years, groups of journalists were invited to study in the USA. [2]

The Austrian deep state has been partly exposed. In 1986 documents were discovered suggesting that Kurt Waldheim committed war crimes and worked for the OSS. Mossad whistleblower Victor Ostrovsky later stated that these documents had been falsified as part of an Israeli campaign to unseat him because he was perceived too close to the Arab side.
Policies
Outlawing Internet anonymity
In 2019, the Austrian government was reported to be considering attempting to outlaw internet anonymity due to concerns about "hate speech".[3]
Glyphosate
Glyphosate was banned in Austria in 2019.[4]
Passports
Austrian passports are highly desirable in intelligence circles because the country is neutral and its holders can travel to many nation states without a visa.[5]
COVID-19
In 2021 Austria mandated COVID jabs for all adults, and had a lockdown for the unvaccinated only.
