| A state propaganda apparatus disguised as a quasi-autonomous public service corporation. | |
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is the largest broadcasting organisation in the world.[1] In terms itself an "autonomous public service broadcaster"[1] operating under a royal charter[2]. The BBC's main responsibility under its charter is to provide "public service broadcasting" within the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. Outside the United Kingdom the BBC broadcasts commercially funded channels such as BBC America, BBC Canada, and BBC World News. It also has a substantial presence on the internet.[3]
Origins
The BBC was the first national state broadcasting organisation. [4] Founded on as the 'British Broadcasting Company Ltd', it was subsequently granted a Royal Charter [2] and was made a publicly funded corporation in 1927. The stated mission of the BBC is "to inform, educate and entertain" - as laid down by Parliament in the BBC Charter; [5].
The BBC is run by the BBC Trust (strapline: "Getting the best out of the BBC for licence fee payers")[6]. Per its charter, its should be "free from both political and commercial influence and answer[able] only to its viewers and listeners".[7]
The 1926 General Strike

The UK General Strike of 1926 indicated how the BBC was to be run. John Reith, then general manager of the BBC (later BBC director general), confided to his diary: "The Cabinet decision is really a negative one. They want to be able to say that they did not commandeer us, but they know they can trust us not to be really impartial." [8] Reith explained it like this "since the BBC was a national institution, and since the government in this crisis was acting for the people... the BBC was for the government in the crisis too."[9]
John Pilger contrasts the actual implementation of a policy on impartiality with the literal meaning. He stated in 2007 that {{#subobject: |Has superobject=BBC |Has objectClass=Quotation |Has author=John Pilger|+sep=, |Has text=“The BBC began in 1922, just before the corporate press began in America. Bilderberg trustee and steering committee member, Marcus Agius is a Senior Independent Director of the BBC and was the first non-executive director appointed to the BBC's new Executive Board.[11] The clearest evidence is that the BBC remains de facto subservient to the deep state is in its handling of deep events.
VIPaedophile protection
A 2016 official report led by Dame Janet Smith said that the BBC allowed Jimmy Savile and Stuart Hall to sexually abuse nearly 100 people without detection for decades. Blaming departmental heads for failing to report the suspicious behaviour of the sexual predators, she defended her finding that "I have found no evidence that the BBC as a corporate body was aware of Savile's conduct", saying "this is not a whitewash".[12] When a junior female employee complained to her supervisor that she had been sexually assaulted by LSavile, she was told "keep your mouth shut, he is a VIP", the report found.[13]
The Smith report concluded that "an atmosphere of fear still exists today in the BBC possibly because obtaining work in the BBC is highly competitive and many people no longer have the security on an employment contract".[14]
The BBC attempted a limited hangout with the 2023 series The Reckoning dealing with Jimmy Savile. The series had "no meaningful effort to engage with the multiple cover-ups – at the broadcaster and at the hospitals and other institutions where he volunteered – which allowed him to prey on vulnerable people for decades. Instead, the focus is on Savile: monster, freak, degenerate".[15]
Vetting by the Intelligence Services
Perhaps the clearest evidence that the covert control exercised over the BBC throughout the post WW2 period to about the mid 1980's is provided by the systematic MI5 vetting of senior (and not-so-senior) BBC appointments and projects.[16] Daphne Park, a senior MI6 officer, was a governor of the BBC from 1982 to 1986.
Andrew Gilligan affair
A latter-day example of BBC subservience was provided by the treatment accorded Andrew Gilligan, one of its reporters, over his broadcast claims about the 'sexing up' of the 'Iraq Dossier' used to justify the UK's participation in the invasion of Iraq and which led to the death of UN Weapons Inspector Dr David Kelly. In spite of Gilligan's claims being largely vindicated by subsequent revelations, he was forced to resign from the BBC, as was its Chairman Gavyn Davies and its Director General Greg Dyke.[17]
BBC rejects humanitarian appeal
In the 2008/2009 attack on Gaza by Israel known as Operation Cast Lead killed at least 1,417 people[18] (mostly women and children) were killed and more than 3,000 homes and hundreds of other properties, including factories, workshops, animal farms and orchards, as well as government buildings, police stations and prisons, were destroyed and more than 20,000 were damaged.[19][20]
"The level of human suffering and destruction I saw today is, from any angle, heartbreaking. It is shocking that civilians suffered so disproportionately in this military operation".
UN Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator John Holmes, 22 January 2009
The Disasters Emergency Committee launched a public appeal to support its humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza, which the BBC refused to broadcast on grounds of "Upholding the BBC's hard won reputation for impartiality"[21][22] [23] The Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, accused the broadcaster of taking sides, "This is not a row about impartiality but rather about humanity". Communities secretary Hazel Blears said: "I sincerely hope the BBC will urgently review its decision."[24] It did not.

Not all BBC material should be thought of as propaganda - the majority of it is the work of well intentioned people. Nevertheless, it would be naive to assume that it is all produced in good faith. Considering its motto "Nation Shall Speak Peace Unto Nation", the exploitation of the BBC for war propaganda is as hypocritical as it is odious. Robert Stuart deserves commendation for his efforts to expose the case of Dr Rola in this regard.
Exceptional material
The BBC does broadcast highly creditable material on occasions, and has even broadcast material which has assisted in revealing the deep state. Most notable in this regard is Allan Francovich's 1992 expose of Operation Gladio, which was broadcast once on BBC 2. Film maker Adam Curtis stopped short of exposing 9/11 as a false flag attack, but his series The Power of Nightmares did argue powerfully on BBC that Al Qaeda was a creation of the US government and that fear of "terrorism" was being used cynically for political purposes.
Censorship
VIPaedophiles
In 2015, while the Operation Yewtree into abuse allegations from within the British media was going on, John Lydon of The Sex Pistols announced in an interview in which he made comments about the rumours surrounding the BBC TV and Radio presenter Jimmy Savile, that he was banned from the BBC for his accusations in 1978. In the 2010s, he announced that he believed his exclusion from the broadcasting service was the result of someone from high up in the BBC wanting to silence the allegations against Savile. [25]
In April 2024, presenter Huw Edwards resigned from the BBC during a police investigation into child pornography offences. In September 2024, he received a six-month - effective non-custodial - suspended sentence for paying for "Category A" child rape videos and images, actively facilitating child rape. Two of the category A images "showed a child aged between about seven and nine".[26] When convicting, district judge Paul Goldspring declined to issue a sexual harm prevention order against Edwards and expressed his concern for Edwards' mental health.[27]
In 2024, BBC news anchor and Tokyo correspondent Duncan Bartlett was convicted to eight years jail for paying Filipino children as young as nine to strip for him online.[28]
Members
The BBC is censored on topics of particular importance to the deep state. On occasions the BBC has commissioned and paid for exposes but then failed to broadcast them after intervention from senior establishment figures.[29] For example, like the rest of the commercially-controlled media, they followed the 9-11 attacks by countless repeats of the collapse of World Trade Centers 1 & 2 (often with an inset image of Osama Bin Laden), but for years had literally nothing to say about 9-11/WTC7. They also removed reference to Bin Laden's murder from an interview with Benazir Bhutto.[30]

Funding
Within the UK, it is funded principally by an annual television licence fee, which is charged to all United Kingdom households, companies and organisations using any type of equipment to record and/or receive live television broadcasts. The level of the fee is set annually by the UK Government and agreed by Parliament. In 2012, Tony Rooke refused to pay his BBC license, citing Section 15 of the 2000 Terrorism Act, which states that "it is an offence for someone to invite another to provide money, intending that it should be used, or having reasonable cause to suspect that it may be used, for terrorism purposes".[31]
Discrimination
The BBC uses anti-white discrimination for job applications.[32]
Many BBC employees have white guilt.
White people were banned from applying for jobs in June 2021.[33]
BBC Radio London fired two popular presenters Robert Elms and Jo Good because they are white.[34]

NATO
The BBC has always had a close relationship with the military.[35]
Between 2007 and 2008, longtime BBC producer and news presenter Victoria Cook was simultaneously collecting a paycheck from NATO, working as a journalist and media trainer.[36]
Oana Lungescu left her job as a correspondent at the BBC World Service in 2010 to take a job as a NATO spokesperson.[37]
Another BBC employee who went through the BBC-to-NATO-pipeline is Mark Laity, who left his position as the network’s defense correspondent to become the deputy spokesman to NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson.[38]
David McGee also left his role as a news producer for the BBC to work for NATO – in this case as a media manager, where he, in his own words, "Provided PR support to military and civilian stakeholders for external communications audience," and, "Undertook crisis management of news events for [the] U.S. military."[39]
Terence Sach, who left his job as an intelligence and security analyst at the U.K. Ministry of Defense in 2017 to become an information security specialist at the BBC.[40]
Between 1994 and 2014, for example, Sulaiman Radmanish worked for the BBC World Service, primarily helping to produce content targeting the Afghan population. Over a similar time period (2005-2014), he worked as a video editor for NATO, "edit[ing] short Psyops clips"[41] according to his LinkedIn profile. It is surely no coincidence that his work with both the BBC and NATO ended in the same year as Britain’s withdrawal from Afghanistan – a country it had been occupying since 2001.
Another operative with one foot in both NATO and the BBC was Bojan Lazic. At the same time as being a full-time [[psychological operations] specialist for NATO, Lazic moonlighted as a BBC technical consultant. This employment coincided with NATO’s bombing of Lazic’s homeland of Yugoslavia.[42]
One example of this is the BBC’s newly appointed Khushru Cooper, BBC’s head of assurance, also is a commissioned British Army officer – a post he has held for 20 years.[43]
Shilling for Israel
BBC editor Raffi Berg - who wrote a book glorifying clandestine Mossad operations[44] - has almost complete control of the BBC's online coverage of Israel's war on Gaza and micromanages to ensure that all events are reported with a pro-Israel bias, in a wider BBC culture of "systematic Israeli propaganda.". A According to a report by Owen Jones, based on interviews with 13 journalists and other BBC staffers, Berg also repeatedly dismissed objections registered by scores of staffers. "This guy's entire job is to water down everything that's too critical of Israel," one former BBC journalist said. The BBC journalists also point to Robbie Gibb, former owner of the Jewish Chronicle, Tim Davie, the director general of the BBC, and Deborah Turness, the CEO of BBC's news division, as protecting . Both are aware of the outrage against Berg, but they just ignore it.[45]
In March 2024, the Centre for Media Monitoring released a 150-page document detailing numerous allegations against the BBC's reporting on Israel and Gaza. That included stripping away context such as Israel's occupation of Palestine and siege of Gaza, far greater use of emotive language to describe Israeli suffering or deaths than that used when the victims are Palestinians and a pattern that BBC's position "has often been to push the Israeli line whilst casting doubt on Pro-Palestinian voices."[46]
Summary
The BBC has not been immune from the general decline in reportorial standards and a move away from investigative journalism.[47] Whilst inquirers will undoubtedly be informed that these were all unfortunate aberrations from which lessons have been learned, there is every reason to suppose that, just like the Ronnie Corbett character in the John Cleese/Ronnie Barker/Ronnie Corbett video sketch, when it comes to deep political issues of the UK Establishment, the BBC continues to "know its place".[48]
