Bob Vylan is an English punk rap duo based in London. Their work merges elements of punk, hip hop, grime, and hardcore, and features criticisms of the British establishment. The members are Bobby Vylan on vocals and guitar, and Bobbie Vylan on drums; both names are stage names that the band members use to maintain their privacy in the face of what they describe as a surveillance state. They refer to themselves as "the Bobs".[1]
Four albums
The group has released four albums beginning with their self-released 2019 debut "Dread". Their most recent album "Humble as the Sun" (2024) was released on the Ghost Theatre label.
"Death, Death to the IDF"
The Bobs are outspoken in their opposition to the occupation of the Palestinian territories by the government of Israel, and Israel's actions in the Gaza war. The duo sparked controversy during their performance on 28 June 2025 at Glastonbury Festival by displaying a message on the screen behind them that read, “Free Palestine. United Nations have called it a 'genocide'. The BBC calls it a ‘conflict'.”
Front man Bobby Vylan went on to lead the crowd in a chant of "Death, Death to the IDF", which resulted in their visas for an upcoming tour in the United States being revoked.[2]
"Free, Free Palestine"
On 9 July 2025, at The 100 Club in London, the duo's first UK gig since Glastonbury, some fans started to repeat the Glastonbury chant of “Death, Death to the IDF.” Bobby Vylan responded by saying
- “You are going to get me in trouble, apparently every other chant is fine but yous (sic) will get me in trouble” before leading the crowd in chants of “Free, Free Palestine.”[3]
