Prime Minister of Denmark since June 2019. Attended the 2023 Bilderberg meeting after which speculation arose that she might be made NATO Secretary General

Mette Frederiksen is a Danish politician who has been Prime Minister of Denmark since June 2019. She attended the 2023 Bilderberg meeting after which speculation arose that she might be the upcoming NATO Secretary General.[1]

Background

Frederiksen comes from a family of Social Democrat party activist. She attended the upper secondary school Aalborghus Gymnasium (1996).

Career

Frederiksen has no work experience outside the political system. She studied at Aalborg University, then between 2000 and 2001 was a youth consultant at the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions. She was elected as a member of parliament for Copenhagen County in the 2001 general election.

During her time in parliament, she was the spokesperson of her party for Culture, Media and Gender equality from 2001 to 2005, as well as for social affairs and a member of the Social Affairs Committee in 2005. In 2005, Mette Frederiksen also became vice-chairwoman of the Group of Social Democrats in the Folketing. At the same time, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Administration and Social Science from Aalborg University in 2007. She also completed a postgraduate course in African Studies at the University of Copenhagen and graduated with a master's degree in 2009.[2]

After the 2011 general election that led to a Social Democrats government, Frederiksen worked under Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt as Minister for Employment from 2011 to 2014 and Minister of Justice from 2014 until she succeeded her as party leader.[3]

After the 2019 general election Frederiksen was appointed Prime Minister heading an exclusively Social Democratic minority government.

"Use the correct media"

In 2025, Frederiksen said

I will need all Danes to be JOINING IN in the coming years. And contribute. And this can be done in many ways. Young people who enlist as conscripts. More people doing volunteer work. AND use the correct media. Because we are going to be flooded with fake news, misinformation, influence campaigns and artificial intelligence. Therefore, it is important that as many Danes as possible use you old media, where can you trust what is said.[4]

Covid

At a press conference on 4 November 2020, as Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen announced that Denmark would kill its mink population of about 15 million since Covid could spread from humans to minks and vice versa.[5][6]

When the decision to cull all minks was made, there was no legal authority in place to do so.[7] During a later parliamentary inquiry, after stalling for several months, Frederiksen told that she had deleted text messages she has sent in connection with the decision. Only five out of 65 witnesses in the mine commission deleted text messages. Three of them were key employees in the Prime Minister's office, and the fourth was prime minister Mette Frederiksen herself. And they also did not log important text messages about mink, although according to the law one must report material that is important for the handling of cases. She said at a press conference that she was advised by her department head Barbara Bertelsen to delete messages ”for security reasons”.[8]

Endless war

On 5 March 2025, Wall Street Mav posted on X:

"European leaders are retarded. Danish PM Mette Frederiksen: "Peace in Ukraine is more dangerous than the ongoing war." She won't end the war because Putin might attack someone else in the future. Under that logic, there is no end to the war ever.[9]
