Exposed many CIA mockingbird media and censorship activities (but has a decidedly turned a blind eye towards Donald Trump and Elon Musk)

Mike Benz is the founding director of Foundation For Freedom Online (FFO) "a free speech watchdog dedicated to restoring the promise of a free and open Internet."[1] He is perhaps best known for his work at the United States Agency for International Development, where he led efforts to dismantle the agency during the second presidency of Donald Trump (but moving its activities to other departments).[2]

Career

Benz began his career as a corporate lawyer in New York City.[3] In 2018, he was employed at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and he also worked for two months at the State Department.[4] He later joined Stephen Miller's speechwriting team (director of speechwriting from 2017 to 2021 during the first Trump administration; White House deputy chief of staff for policy and homeland security advisor in 2025).

In 2022, Benz became the executive director of the Foundation for Freedom Online (FFO). According to an early version of FFO's website, it was a project of Empower Oversight, a Republican-linked whistleblower advocacy organization.[5]

Corporate media ran hit pieces on him[6][4][3]

Online censorship

In 2022, FFO relased a report saying describing how:

DHS pulled off a ‘foreign-to-domestic switcheroo’ by working with tech companies first to censor ‘foreign, inauthentic, coordinated’ social media activity (i.e., ‘[[Russian] interference’) and then switching in summer 2020 to censoring ‘domestic, authentic, organic social media activity (i.e., all American citizens accused of spreading ‘misinformation’). DHS invokes a ‘whole of society’ approach to censorship, meaning every institution in society is pressured to censor the same topics.[7]

  • DHS coordinated censorship at both ends, connecting the social media monitors who reported posts to the social media platforms who banned those posts. The US government, in effect, censored the ability to “cast doubt” on the US government. It simply did so using a cut-out –– whose partners, incidentally, all received millions of dollars in funding from the US government.[7][8]

He has done a several media appearances, including being featured in 2024 by Tucker Carlson, explaining the connection between the CIA and mass censorship.[9]

Problems with reporting

  • He describes the deep state as something outside the Trump administration, turning a decidedly blind eye to deep state activities and connections around Trump.
