Bruno Le Maire is a French politician who attended the Bilderberg for the first time in 2019. He was minister of finance during "Covid", spending several hundred billion euros[1] to implement the lockdowns, forced face masks, and coerced Covid jabs[2][3][4]
Background
Bruno Le Maire was born on 15 April 1969 in the Parisian suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine.[5][6] He is the son of Maurice Le Maire, an executive at the oil company Total, and Viviane Fradin de Belâbre, a headmistress of private Catholic schools, mainly Lycée Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague.[7] Le Maire was educated at Lycée Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague until he obtained his baccalauréat.
Education
Le Maire began attending the École normale supérieure in 1989, and then Paris-Sorbonne University, where he studied French literature. He graduated from Sciences Po in 1995, and was accepted into the École nationale d'administration (ÉNA) in 1996.[5][6][8][9]
Career
After completing training at the ENA, he entered the service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he became an employee in the Strategy, Security and Disarmament Directorate. This led to cooperation with the then Secretary General of the Élysée Palace, Dominique de Villepin. When he was Foreign Minister between 2002 and 2004, Le Maire was one of his closest collaborators during the Iraq crisis from 2002 to 2003. When de Villepin was Interior Minister from March 2004 to May 2005, he was again one of his closest collaborators.
When de Villepin became Prime Minister on 31 May 2005, Le Maire initially became his political advisor. On 12 July 2006, he was appointed Cabinet Director by the latter, when the previous Cabinet Director Pierre Mongin became Director General of the RATP. Le Maire retained the post of cabinet director until the end of de Villepin's term of office on May 15, 2007.
In April 2008, he first became a political adviser to the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP), and then on December 12, 2008 he was given the post of State Secretary for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Commissioner for Franco-German Friendship,[10]. On 23 June 2009, he was appointed Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries by President Nicolas Sarkozy, in the government of François Fillon.
In August 2012, Le Maire announced that he would be a candidate for the presidency of the UMP, focusing his campaign around enhancing European economic integration, but failed. In November 2014, Le Maire obtained 29.8% of the vote against Nicolas Sarkozy in the election for the presidency of the UMP (renamed The Republicans in 2015).
Le Maire since distanced himself from his party, calling for "the right" to work constructively with Macron to ensure the president's five years in office succeeds and prevents the "far-right" National Front making further electoral inroads.[11]
In May 2017, Le Maire was appointed by President Emmanuel Macron Minister of the Economy, Finance, Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, becoming member of the party created for Macron, En Marche![12] In 2019, he led the European Union's selection process for a European candidate to succeed Christine Lagarde as managing director of the International Monetary Fund.[13] He was replaced in September 2024.
Covid
He was minister of finance during "Covid", spending several hundred billion euros[14] to implement the lockdowns, forced face masks, and coerced Covid jabs[15][16][17]
All out war against Russia
In March 2022, at the start of the Russia-Ukraine war finance minister Le Maire declared an "all-out economic and financial war" against Russia. "We will cause the collapse of the Russian economy."[18]
On 5 October 2025, Le Maire was appointed Minister of State, Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs in the first Lecornu government.[19] His appointment was criticised as he was deemed responsible for France's budgetary deficit as a longtime former Finance Minister; faced with criticism, he resigned after only few hours in office.[20]
Epstein
In 2018m,Jeffrey Epstein wrote to Cedric Villani that "I realized that Bruno Le Maire has been at my house in New York and wondered if you can pass on an invitation to him to come visit me in Paris".[21][22] In similar correspondence in 2013, Olivier Colom referred to him as "future candidate to the Presidential election", asking Epstein to help him raise funds.[23]
Marriage
Bruno Le Maire is married to painter Pauline Doussau de Bazignan, who is the mother of his four sons.[24][25][26] His wife was employed as his parliamentary assistant from 2007 to 2013.[27]
