Peter Thiel is a billionaire member of the Bilderberg Steering Committee whom Sam Biddle described for The Intercept in 2017 as "one of the American political mainstream's most notorious figures". His first Bilderberg was in 2008 and he has attended all subsequent meetings (since 2012, together with co-founder of Palantir, Alex Karp). Thiel's role in The Paypal Mafia is seldom reported, although he is named as the de facto leader, above old friend Elon Musk.

Background

Thiel was born Germany, lived part of his childhood in South Africa and Namibia, was granted citizenship in New Zealand in 2011 (after a donation of NZ$1 million ($730,000) to the Christchurch earthquake relief effort, although only having visited 4 times). He has worked for Sullivan & Cromwell. In 1998 Thiel co-founded PayPal together with Max Levchin, which he sold it in 2004. He founded Palantir with Alex Karp and Joe Lonsdale in 2004, a company which at least by 2008 was collaborating with GCHQ.

Activities

Gawker

Thiel financed the lawsuit by Hulk Hogan against Gawker, which led to the end of the online publication. Tom Scocca wrote in 2016 about the shuttering of Gawker that "a lie with a billion dollars behind it is stronger than the truth. Peter Thiel has shut down Gawker.com." Gawker was the website that published parts of Epstein's black book.

Controlling the narrative

Thiel was a very early investor in Facebook and was "one of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's earliest advisors for nearly 20 years". Thiel describes himself as a "libertarian", has opposed women's suffrage and has been a huge supporter of Ron Paul. He has invested in online media such as Reddit. In 2021 Peter Thiel invested in Rumble.

Support for IDF AI-assisted targeting?

During the Q&A part at a Cambridge Union event in mid 2024, Thiel was asked: "what do you think of the use of artificial intelligence, or Lavender by the IDF in identifying Hamas targets" which brought him to what could be described as a short nervous breakdown. While Lavender, or other IDF targeting systems have not been publicly disclosed to be powered by Palantir AI solutions, Kelley Vlahos hints that this is a possible scenario. Thiel getting into a stutter when asked about this, could indicate that Palantir is indeed involved. If so, that he may think what is happening is wrong, but also that he may know (or has been briefed), that he is liable for war crimes if the protection of the US empire were to come to an end.

Allegedly, Thiel "spends $40,000 per quarter to get an infusion of blood from an 18-year-old"

Cryptocurrencies as "WMDs"

During the rise of computer mining farms with thousands of computers combined together, Thiel argued cryptocurrencies to be a Chinese WMD aimed at destabilizing the US, by making the cost of living too high for the average American, getting quoted in a large number of US corporate media.

Antichrist

In 2025, Thiel hosted a series of four lectures in San Francisco on Christian theology, philosophizing about who the antichrist could be and warning that Armageddon is coming. {{#subobject: |Has superobject=Peter Thiel |Has objectClass=Quotation |Has author=Peter Thiel|+sep=, |Has text=“I don't think even someone like Bill Gates, who I think is a very, very awful person, is remotely able to be the antichrist.” |Is about=Peter Thiel,Bill Gates, Antichrist|+sep=, |Has wikipediaPage= |Has location=|+sep=, |Has publicationDate=2025 |Sourced from= |Has sourceDetails= |Has sourceTitle= |Has sourceName= |Has sourceURL=https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/oct/10/peter-thiel-lectures-antichrist

Connections

Jeffrey Epstein

Thiel had meetings with Jeffrey Epstein in 2014 on at least three occasions, either in one-on-one meetings or with others over lunch or dinner. Two other times, Mr. Thiel was listed among more than a dozen other well-known people Epstein should try to see while at his New York mansion.

Opus Dei

Thiel is a close friend of Father Arne Panula, a senior man for Opus Dei in the United States, later head of US operations. The two had met when Panula was active in Silicon Valley (presumably in the early 2000s). On long hikes in the Marin headlands, north of San Francisco, the two men bonded over their shared disdain for government.

Personal life

Jeff Thomas, a reported lover, committed suicide in March 2023.
