Sarah Rebecca Sackman is a British Labour Party politician and barrister. She was elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Finchley and Golders Green at the UK/General election/2024, and was appointed Minister of State for Courts and Legal Services in December 2024.
Previously, Sarah Sackman was Solicitor General for England and Wales from July until December 2024.
Criticism from Tony Greenstein
On 23 August 2026, Jewish anti-Zionist activist Tony Greenstein blogged:
Section 117 (2A) of the Terrorism Act 2000 states that for an offence relating to a country outside the UK, a prosecution may only proceed with the consent of the Attorney General. However Attorney General, Richard Hermer excused himself, on the grounds of a conflict of interest.
Sarah Sackman – the Solicitor General Who Authorised My Prosecution – Dedicated Zionist – But No Bias According to the Reactionary Lord Justice Edis of the Court of Appeal – Sackperson proves that Labour Zionism is no different from its Likud variant.
It therefore fell to the Solicitor-General, Sarah Sackman, to consent. The only problem was that she had been Vice-Chair of the Jewish Labour Movement from 2015 to 2024. She had also attacked me personally in an article in the Jewish News, March 16, 2016. She had co-authored an article with Mike Katz, attacking me as a ‘problematic figure’ i.e. I was anti-Semitic.
It was obvious that Sackman was biased and could not approve my prosecution. Judge Sarah Plaschkes disagreed. The Court of Appeal judges, headed by LJ Edis found (para. 57) that ‘A fair minded and informed observer… would not, in our judgment conclude that there was a real possibility that she was biased in taking the only reasonable option open to her.’ One wonders what world Edis and company live in.[1]

Sarah Sackman KC has been the Labour MP for Finchley and Golders Green since 2024 and is currently the Minister of State for Courts and Legal Services.
Sarah is a barrister by profession and was previously granted a scholarship to train at the Supreme Court of Israel in Jerusalem. Sarah has described the Israeli judiciary as ‘“a pillar of Israeli democracy.”’
Sarah practised as a barrister at Matrix Chambers alongside Richard Hermer (now Lord Hermer) who became the Attorney General for England and Wales.
In the new Labour government of 2024, Sarah was sworn in as Solictor General alongside Lord Hermer (Attorney General) and Shabana Mahmood (Lord Chancellor).
Sarah has been a member of Bnei Akiva - the largest Zionist youth movement in the world. ‘Bnei Akiva members now typically settle in development towns and settlements.’
In 2015, the same year that Jeremy Corbyn became Leader of the Labour Party, Sarah became Vice Chair of the lobby organisation the Jewish Labour Movement (JLM).
It was complaints of alleged antisemitism in the Labour Party under Corbyn’s leadership that Margaret Hodge and the JLM submitted to the Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and which initiated the EHRC’s subsequent investigation. The late Sir Geoffrey Bindman KC declared these complaints to be ‘“almost entirely bogus”.’
Sarah is firmly opposed to the recognition of a Palestinian state. This would appear to be at odds with her membership of another lobby organisation, Labour Friends of Israel, which openly and continuously advocates for a ‘two state solution’.
Sarah also opposes the suspension of arms exports to Israel.
In an interview with The Jewish Chronicle in October 2025, Sarah spoke of the ‘ambient antisemitism’ that she believes has taken over parts of British cultural life - especially in ‘universities, public services…doctors…and schools’.
Sarah repeatedly stated in the interview that the ‘full force of the law’ should be applied in ‘rooting out “the oldest hate”.’
In discussing the current protests and assemblies in the UK, Sarah said that while protest is a ‘“cornerstone of our democracy”,’ it is right that the Public Order Act is being amended to restrict and ban ‘“repeat protests”.’
Sarah has accepted the following donations:
£10,000 from Gary Lubner.
£17,850 in 6 payments from Sir Trevor Chinn.

On June 29th, Labour MP Sarah Sackman registered two cash payments from a pro-Israeli lobbyist.
Three weeks later, Andy Burnham became Prime Minister.
The next day, he appointed Sackman to the Ministry of Justice.
Andy Burnham says that he will cancel David Lammy’s jury trial proposals.
But did you know that he just re-appointed Sarah Sackman, a former Israeli Supreme Court clerk, to the Ministry of Justice?[3]
Trial by jury
In November 2025, Sackman announced proposals to deprive many of their right to a trial by jury, in order to stop them:
- "coming into court and laughing in the face of the justices."
Before July 2024
Before the election, she received a total of £11,150 from Israeli lobbyists Joseph, Sarah, Miriam, and Stephen Grabiner. Sackman previously worked as a judicial clerk at the Israeli Supreme Court and still travels to the settler state “on a yearly basis”.
One month before her election, Sackman declared her opposition to ICC arrest warrants for Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, saying:
- "I trust the Israeli people to hold their leaders to account."[4]
Jewish Labour Movement
In 2016, Sackman was elected vice-chair of the Jewish Labour Movement.[5]
